Birr is an ideal centre for touring the midlands.  It has excellent restaurants, a theatre, world class demesne gardens and sports facilities.  It is within easy distance of the River Shannon, the Slieve Bloom mountains, Esker and Bog landscapes and important monastic sites such as Clonmacnoise and Clonfert.
 
Birr Castle is a 5 min walk away and is famous for its historic science centre, great telescope and award winning gardens.  Admire Birr's attractive georgian malls and leafy linear parks along the river Camcor.  The programme at Birr Theatre and Arts Centre offers a wide variety of entertainment at Oxmantown Hall a restored Victorian Theatre.    Birr Equestrian Centre is a 5 min drive.  Birr Leisure Centre, Childrens Playground, The Churches are all a 5 min walk.
Birr was the chosen venue for the first All Ireland Hurling Final between Tipperary and Galway in 1888 and the town has a proven hurling tradition and achievement.
 
Birr Vintage Week is held in August every year.  The Tullamore Show is also held in August and is just a 15 min drive.  We are near the Slieve Bloom Mountains which is keen with walkers.  Kinnitty Castle is a 10 min drive.  The Leap Castle (the most haunted castle in Ireland) is a 15 min drive.  Moneygall is a 25 min drive. Terryglass is a 20 min drive. Banager is a 10 min drive. Tullamore is a 25 min drive. Portumna is a 20 min drive. Roscrea is a 15 min drive.
